Maple Shade is a historic home in the middle of the Town of Sussex. Located on Church Ave., a one minute walk from Main Street, the Victorian style home was built in the mid 1850’s. Built by one of Sussex’s early lumber barons, Maple Shade was the family home of the first Mayor of Sussex, William McKay, when he was elected in 1904.
Nestled in the heart of downtown Sussex, this 160 year old heritage home is strategically located to enjoy a walking tour of original works of art. The Murals of Sussex adorn the walls of many of our unique buildings and speak of our rich 250 year history.
The Town of Sussex boasts a population of 4,200, but serves a close-knit community of over 35,000. Sussex is within about an hours’ drive of three major New Brunswick cities. The seaport city – Saint John (famous for its Reversing Falls); the industrial hub city – Moncton (known for its proximity to the Tidal Boar); and the provincial capital – Fredericton (city of stately elms).
